Sport by BCD Travel is a relatively new Sports Tour business run by three not-so-new characters who have been around the travel industry and specifically the Sports Tour game for a decent amount of time. They have earned an enviable reputation for running top quality sports tours and packages that provide great value for money and include unique once in a lifetime experiences and they offer friendly and attentive service.
Duncan Garvie, Ross (Jamo) Jamieson and Peter Barlow were formerly the key guys for many years behind a successful general and sports tour business until its sale in 2009. They are now the guys who own and operate Sport by BCD Travel in New Zealand. Their experience and knowledge in the travel industry in New Zealand is second to none. They have been involved in every major All Blacks Supporters Tour since the mid 80’s and every Rugby World Cup since its inception in 1987. They have arranged tours and travel to major sporting events of every kind throughout the world of sport and also for major sporting events in New Zealand.
The aim of Sport by BCD Travel is to create boutique touring opportunities and bespoke itineraries to events and special sporting occasions in New Zealand and throughout the World for our clients. We have experienced and knowledgeable travel staff in our office who will look after you personally and offer exclusive Taylor-made travel experiences for individuals and groups alike. We are here to serve you and look after your every need.
Duncan’s knowledge and travel industry experience spans more than thirty-five years. With tertiary training and a career in Hotel Management and Catering his original path, he then was with Singapore Airlines as a Sales Executive for five years. In 1985 he joined Mick Williment as his ‘second in command’, soon becoming General Manager of Williment World Travel Ltd. He pioneered tours to the Hong Kong Sevens and to the Bledisloe Cup in Australia and further developed and expanded the All Blacks Supporters Tour concept that Mick had begun. Duncan has been intrinsically involved in all the Rugby World Cup (RWC) projects since the first tournament in 1987 when he assisted on the organising committee for that event. Subsequent RWCs in England, South Africa, Wales, Australia, France and New Zealand have followed. In 1994 upon the untimely passing of Mick, Duncan assumed control of the business.
Duncan and his partners, Peter Barlow, Ross Jamieson and Dennis McEnaney purchased the Business Travel Management Business - BCD Travel NZ in 2010. Under the new company structure, Duncan’s focus as a Director of BCD Travel is on the development of bespoke arrangements aimed at the Corporate Travel market to major sports events and to the strategic direction of the business.
Rugby and travel are a big part of Duncan’s life. He is President and a Life Member of the Poneke Football Club (est. 1883) and he spent a number of years on the Wellington Rugby Union Executive. Walking, tramping and relaxing at the beach are pastimes that he enjoys with partner Marg and his family outside of Rugby and work.
